James Henry Cafferty (1819 to 1869) was an American genre, portrait, and still-life painter active in New York City. He enrolled at the National Academy of Design in 1841 and became a regular exhibitor in its annual shows, while the American Art-Union acquired a number of his landscapes. During the 1840s and 1850s he produced portraits, genre scenes, and book illustrations, including likenesses of fellow artists.
In his later years still lifes of fish and game came to dominate his output. He was elected a member of the National Academy of Design.
