Francisco Herrera the Younger (born in Seville around 1627, died in Madrid in 1685) was a Spanish painter and architect of the Baroque, the son and pupil of Francisco Herrera the Elder. He spent time in Rome, where his still lifes of fish earned him the nickname the Spaniard of the fishes, and on returning to Seville he painted works such as The Triumph of Saint Hermenegild, marked by theatrical movement in the Roman Baroque manner. Settling in Madrid, he became a painter to the king and in 1677 master of the royal building works, also designing altarpieces and architecture.
