Meister der Kaufmannschen Kreuzigung

Meister der Kaufmannschen Kreuzigung, the Master of the Kaufmann Crucifixion, is the conventional name for an anonymous Bohemian Gothic painter active in the mid-fourteenth century. The name derives from a panel of the Crucifixion of Christ, painted around 1340 to 1350 and once in the Kaufmann collection, now held in the Gemaeldegalerie in Berlin. The work is among the most accomplished examples of early Bohemian panel painting, with a densely populated, carefully ordered composition that shows the influence of Italian art. The painter's identity is unknown, and scholars debate whether the panel originated in Bohemia or in Austria.
