Artist
Jiun
Jiun is a Nanga artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Jiun painted single-panel calligraphic scrolls that slice right to the bone. In “For a hundred years [I have been] a person with no attachments” (1782), a few spare ink strokes and a line of kanji strip away everything except the quiet weight of letting go. The work belongs to late-Edo calligraphy, where each character is both word and image.
Tap the scroll to see how one hand, one mind, and one sheet of paper can say so much with so little.
