José Risueño
Spain
José Risueño is a Spain Baroque artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Museo del Prado.
José Risueño carved delicate wood and terracotta figures during Spain’s late 1600s, when church altarpieces were the main stage for art. In our gallery you can see his tender St Joseph with the Christ Child, carved around 1720, and the smaller Infant St John the Baptist from about 1700—both softly modeled and painted in warm earth tones. Tap either sculpture to stand inside the candle-lit chapels they once inhabited.
