This guy left his comb behind in the printshop one rainy March afternoon and never came back. A barber by trade, he turned the stray hairs into tiny landscapes, tiny towns, wee ships, microscopic forests, all inked on scraps of old ledgers he pinched from the back of the shop. Why?

Nobody knows, but the curls still curl in the margins of his prints. Hunt for H Beard Print Collection (28th March 1795) and you’ll meet a whole world that fits on a thumbnail.
