Gaganendranath Tagore

Gaganendranath Tagore made playful, sharp paintings of modern life in early 20th-century Bengal. He painted a teasing picture called “The first Bengali Governor, where is H.E.?” in the 1920s, asking where the new governor had gone in satirical strokes. Most of his surviving works are untitled scenes from around 1915 to 1925 that mix humor with social observation.
