Pieter van Bie
Dutch, b. 1620
Pieter van Bie is a Dutch Dutch Golden Age painter. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at Pyotr Semyonov-Tyan-Shansky collection.
Pieter van Bie was a Dutch painter born in 1620, active during the Dutch Golden Age of the seventeenth century. He is known for The Expulsion of Hagar, a biblical subject drawn from the Book of Genesis, in which Abraham sends away the servant Hagar and her son Ishmael at Sarah's insistence. The theme was popular among Dutch painters of the period, who treated such Old Testament narratives as occasions for expressive figure groups and dramatic emotion. Little detailed biographical information about van Bie survives.
