This anonymous painter from the late 1400s made small, sharply focused altarpieces. In Mary and Child Enthroned with St. Barbara and St. Margaret, gilded halos glow against a deep crimson, while Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane shows a moonlit Jesus kneeling among sleeping apostles. The figures look stiff, caught between Gothic elegance and the first hints of Renaissance realism.
