Boar Hunt is a 1672 by Abraham Hondius, a Baroque work, held at Cleveland Museum of Art.
This painting shows hunters with dogs chasing a wild boar through a snowy forest. The boar looks fierce, and one hunter raises a spear. Snow covers the ground and trees in soft white patches. Hondius loved dramatic animal scenes like this. He painted real hunts, not just pretty winter scenes. The light hits the hunters’ bright clothes against the dark trees. Next, look up chiaroscuro. It’s the strong light-and-dark contrast he used here.
Abraham Danielsz. Hondius was a Dutch Golden Age painter known for his depictions of animals.
