La Route de la Houssoye is a 1913 by Auguste Lepère, held at Cleveland Museum of Art.
This sketch shows a quiet country road winding through a wooded area. The trees on both sides are drawn with quick, scratchy lines, giving them a rough, textured look. The sky above is mostly empty, with just a few faint marks to suggest light. The road itself is narrow, with a slight curve disappearing into the distance. There’s a small patch of brighter lines near the bottom right, maybe a house or a break in the trees. If you like this style, check out chiaroscuro for more about how light and shadow create depth in art.
Louis-Auguste Lepère (30 November 1849 – 20 November 1918) was a French painter and etcher. Lepère is also considered a leader in the creative revival of wood engraving in Europe.
