Le Port de Nantes is a 1906 by Auguste Lepère, held at Cleveland Museum of Art.
This drawing shows a busy harbor packed with ships of all sizes. The water is crowded with boats, some anchored, others moving, and the docks are filled with people and cargo. Buildings line the shore, and a bridge stretches across the river in the background. Look closer at the tiny figures on the docks—some are loading goods, others seem to be walking or waiting. The artist used light and shadow to give depth to the scene, making the ships and buildings stand out. If you like this kind of detailed city scene, check out The Cleveland Museum of Art.
Louis-Auguste Lepère (30 November 1849 – 20 November 1918) was a French painter and etcher. Lepère is also considered a leader in the creative revival of wood engraving in Europe.
