Gentleman in Large Mantle, Front View is a 1622 ink by Jacques Callot, a Baroque work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This sketch shows two people in fancy old clothes. The person on the left wears a big coat and a hat with feathers, holding something like a cane. The person on the right has a long striped dress with a wide skirt, also wearing a feathered hat and holding a stick. The lines are sharp and detailed, made by scratching into metal plates. This was a common way to make prints back then. Next, check out etching to see how artists like this created their work.
Jacques Callot was a baroque printmaker and draftsman from the Duchy of Lorraine.
