The Stag Hunt is a 1619 ink by Jacques Callot, a Baroque work, depicting Hunting, held at National Gallery of Art.
This engraving shows hunters chasing a stag through a forest. A rider on a white horse leads the pack, while dogs bark below. The trees press in tight around the action. Callot was one of the first to print detailed battle and hunt scenes like this. His lines are so fine you can count the leaves on distant branches. That level of detail made his prints prized when they first appeared. Try looking at Callot, Jacques next.
Jacques Callot was a baroque printmaker and draftsman from the Duchy of Lorraine.
