About this work

This engraving shows hunters chasing a stag through a forest. A rider on a white horse leads the pack, while dogs bark below. The trees press in tight around the action. Callot was one of the first to print detailed battle and hunt scenes like this. His lines are so fine you can count the leaves on distant branches.
