This etching shows a soldier on horseback passing a hay wagon in a quiet road. The horse and wagon stand still. Leaves drift down in the background. The artist made this on a metal plate. He scratched lines into it with a needle, then filled the lines with ink. That’s called drypoint. It gives the lines a soft, fuzzy look. Prints like this let regular people see art at home. If you like this, try another drypoint by Emaus de Micault, Gerhardus.
