A Portico is a 1526 by Erhard Schön, held at Cleveland Museum of Art.
This drawing shows a covered walkway with stone arches and a tiled floor. Wooden beams crisscross above, supporting the roof. In the back, two more arches lead to a dimmer space with a small table and a figure lying down. The lines all meet at a single point on the floor, making everything look like it’s pulling you toward the center. This trick is called *one-point perspective*—a way to draw depth. Erhard Schön (c. 1491–1542) was a German woodcut designer and painter. Schön was born in Nuremberg as the son of painter Max Schön III. He probably started to learn his trade as an artist in the workshop of his father.…
