Men of Justice is a 1921 ink by Jean-Louis Forain, held at National Gallery of Art.
This sketch shows two men in a courtroom. One stands tall, holding a gavel, while the other leans over a table, hands on his head. The lines are loose and quick, like a rough draft. The whole scene is in brown ink, with faint washes of color. The standing man looks stern, his posture full of authority. The other man seems defeated, slumped over the table. The artist used simple shapes and bold strokes to tell this story. Next, check out Forain, Jean-Louis.
Jean-Louis Forain (French pronunciation: ; 23 October 1852 – 11 July 1931) was a French Impressionist painter and printmaker, working in media including oils, watercolour, pastel, etching and lithograph.
