Vânătoare de mistreți. Pandant: Vânătoare de urși is a work by Philipp Ferdinand de Hamilton, a Baroque work, depicting Hunting, held at Brukenthal National Museum.
This painting shows two dogs in a dark forest. One is a white hound with a red collar, standing still. The other is a large, shaggy black dog—maybe a bear?—lying on the ground with its mouth open. The background is murky with trees and hills, but the focus is on the animals. The white dog looks calm while the other seems to be struggling. This might be a hunt scene, where the hound is controlling the wild animal. Check out hunting in old European art to see how dogs were often shown in these scenes.
Philipp Ferdinand de Hamilton (c. 1664 – 1750), was an 18th-century painter from the Southern Netherlands active in Austria.
