青上練兵場観兵式之図|Illustration of Emperor's Military Review of a Parade Ground at Aoyama (Aoyama renpeijō kanpeishiki no zu) is a 1888 ink by Inoue Yasuji, a Impressionism work, depicting Horse, held at Metropolitan Museum of Art.
This triptych shows three scenes of soldiers in bright red and black uniforms with gold trim. The men stand at attention, march in formation, and ride horses or carriages. Flags with sun symbols wave in the background, and the sky is painted with soft clouds. The soldiers’ uniforms are detailed, with buttons, sashes, and hats that look official. One man holds a flag with a yellow sun emblem, which stands out against the blue sky. Look up horse next to see how artists often depicted them in military scenes.
Inoue Yasuji (1864–1889) was an artist, born in Tokyo.
