Gust of Wind (Le coup de vent) is a 1874 ink by Alphonse Legros, a Romanticism work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This sketch shows a windy landscape with trees bending sideways. The ground is full of wild grass and bushes, and the sky looks rough, like it’s being pushed by a strong breeze. The lines are loose and scratchy, giving the scene a sense of movement. The artist used a method that lets ink sit in the grooves of the plate, creating a grainy texture. This makes the wind feel almost real, like you can hear it. Check out etching to see how artists use acid and ink to make prints like this.
