The Holy Land, Syria, Idumea, Arabia, Egypt & Nubia (Vol. III): Entrance to Petra is a 1842 by Louis Haghe, a Romanticism work, depicting Afghanistan, held at Cleveland Museum of Art.
This print shows the rocky entrance to Petra, an ancient city carved into rose-red cliffs. Louis Haghe made it in 1842, using early lithography to copy a traveler’s drawing. The artist added tiny human figures to show how huge the cliffs really are. You can almost feel the heat rising off the stone. Next time you’re at the Cleveland Museum of Art, look for their copy of this print.
Louis Haghe (17 March 1806 – 9 March 1885) was a lithographer and watercolourist from the Netherlands and then the United Kingdom.
