Holy Family is a 1750 by Cosimo Mogalli, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This print shows three figures in a rocky landscape. A woman with a halo sits holding a sleeping child, while a standing man leans over her. Another barefoot child kneels nearby, looking up at the woman’s hand. The artist used deep shadows and light to shape the figures, making their forms stand out sharply. The woman’s robes flow smoothly, while the man’s cloak is rough and textured. Next, look up chiaroscuro to see how this lighting trick works in other art.
The print depicts the Holy Family with the Infant Christ seated on the ground, rendered after a work by Andrea del Sarto. It is based on a composition originally attributed to the collection of the Grand Duke of Tuscany, now housed in the Uffizi Gallery. Executed in print on paper, the image reproduces the earlier painting's religious subject matter and arrangement.
