This painting shows a group of figures in a dramatic, shadowy scene. A woman with bare shoulders stands in the center, holding a staff, while others surround her—some dressed in flowing robes, others nearly naked. One figure kneels, another leans in close, and a small child with wings crouches at the bottom left. The lighting is dark and moody, with deep shadows and soft edges. The title *Der Triumph der Omphale* hints this is about a mythological victory, but the figures don’t match classic heroes. The artist used strong contrasts between light and dark to create depth. Next, check out chiaroscuro to see how this lighting trick works.
