Untitled is a 1959 ink by Roél d'Haese, held at Museum of Modern Art.
This sketch shows two figures tangled together in loose, swirling lines. The ink is all over the paper—some lines are thick and dark, others fade into light strokes. One figure’s hair or cloak looks like it’s blowing, and the other’s face is half-hidden in shadow. The artist used lots of overlapping lines to build up shapes, almost like a sketch that never quite finished. It’s messy but full of movement. Check out cross-hatching to see how artists use lines to create depth.
