Dominant colour
Umit Cinema is a 2012 by Richard Roberts, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This print shows a faded storefront sign for *Umit & Son Store*, with a phone number and three red circles in the middle. Below the sign is a closed metal shutter, slightly rusted, with the word *UMIT* barely visible on the right side. The colors are dull—peeling paint, a greenish trim, and a worn brick wall behind it. The shutter’s texture looks like it’s made of stacked metal slats, giving it a rough, industrial feel. The sign’s old phone number hints at a time when this place was active, now frozen in the image. A 2012 screenprint by Richard Roberts shows the closed front of a London corner shop, its metal shutters lowered and the sign reading “Umit & Son store” alongside an 0181 telephone number. Through the window blinds, a second sign inside reveals the establishment’s alternate identity as “Umit Cinema.” The print is numbered, titled, and signed by the artist.
