A staged reception, and a little bit of rain is a 1988 by Jamal Shah, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This print shows a man dancing in the rain. It was made in 1988 by Jamal Shah, who grew up in Pakistan. The rain is new for Shah. He saw it as a sign of hope, not sadness. Kids and a chicken appear too. They show the busy life of Pakistan’s streets. Check out Shah’s other prints at the Victoria and Albert Museum.
The etching on paper depicts a central scene of male figures performing a Pakhtun (Khatak) dance in the rain, observed by a standing man on the right. Four children appear in the foreground, while a chicken feeds in a shadowed area to the left. The composition includes inverted text from an Islamic pottery catalogue and an arabesque triangle at the top, with the artist's title and signature in pencil along the bottom. The work was created during the artist's time at the Slade School of Art and later gifted to the collection.
