The story of this work

Overview

In 1981, Toppan Printing created a poster for a series of twelve designs by leading Japanese graphic artists, curated by Masaru Katsumi to promote lectures, masterclasses, and performances of five traditional Japanese performing arts. This poster highlights *Nagauta Shamisen*, a lyrical musical form accompanying Kabuki theater, featuring a three-stringed shamisen alongside drums and flute. The event was organized by the Classical Performing Arts Friendship Mission of Japan during a five-week tour at UCLA and other venues as part of the Asian Performing Arts Institute.
