歌川芳盛画 「鳥獣図會」豹と阿蘭陀婦人|“Dutchwoman with Leopard,” from the series Pictures of Birds and Animals (Chōjū zue) is a 7 ink by Utagawa Yoshimori, a Impressionism work, depicting Bird, held at Metropolitan Museum of Art.
This print shows a woman in a long blue dress holding a white rabbit, standing next to a leopard with big dark spots. The woman wears a red collar and a fancy headpiece, and the leopard’s tail curls up behind her. The background is simple, with just a hint of water and a pale sky. The leopard’s spots are drawn with sharp black lines, making it look almost alive. This kind of detailed animal portrait was popular in Japanese prints of the time.
