About this work

This drawing shows a strange, crowded tunnel with odd figures climbing stone steps. On the left, a naked man with a fish tail stands next to a woman in a dress. Above them, a wall holds tiny scenes of people in old-fashioned clothes. To the right, a giant feathered plant blocks part of the stairs, where a small cat sits near a tiny person. The artist packed the scene with tiny details, like the faces peeking from the wall or the cat’s quiet spot. The steps and shadows make the tunnel feel deep and mysterious. Look up cross-hatching to see how artists build shadows with lines like this.
