About

The Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour (RSW) was founded in Glasgow in 1878 — not 1876 — and received its royal charter in 1888. Based initially in Glasgow and later Edinburgh, it holds annual open exhibitions that have historically shown work by Scottish artists including David Young Cameron and James Paterson. It remains the principal professional body for watercolour painting in Scotland.
