Ludovico Carracci, born on April 21, 1555, was an Italian early-Baroque painter, etcher, and printmaker known for his emotionally charged works characterized by broad gestures and flickering light. His pieces, such as The Lamentation and Madonna and Child with Saints, showcase his ability to invoke spiritual emotion.
He is credited with reinvigorating Italian art, particularly fresco art, by moving away from formalistic Mannerism.
