Bursa Archaeological Museum

The Bursa Archaeological Museum is an archaeological museum located in Bursa, Turkey, in the Çekirge district. It houses archaeological artifacts spanning from the Middle Miocene Period through the end of the Byzantine Era, all excavated from the Bursa region and its surroundings. The museum serves as a key institution for understanding the ancient regions of Bithynia and Mysia, with collections that trace human presence from the Paleolithic through classical antiquity.

The museum's origins date to 1902 or 1904, when it was first established in a former secondary school building. In 1930, the collection moved to the Yeşil Madrasa. A significant transformation occurred in 1972, when the archaeological section separated from the main Bursa Museum and relocated to a newly constructed building within Bursa Kültürpark. The museum closed temporarily for restoration in 2010 and reopened in 2013 after extensive renovations.

Particularly significant are the Roman-period statues of Apollo and Athena from the ancient city of Miletupolis. The museum also holds finds from the Üç Pınar tumulus, including objects from the Persian domination period of the 6th to 4th centuries BCE, such as funerary stelae and pieces related to war chariots. A distinctive Greco-Persian funerary stele from the satrapy centered at Dascylium stands out for its rarity. Materials from the Şahinkaya cave, the Aktopraklık mound, the necropolis of Ahmetler, and a tumulus in Bursa itself contribute to the regional narrative, alongside pieces from ancient Miletupolis and Antandros.

The museum occupies a purpose-built structure within Bursa Kültürpark, where it has been housed since 1972. This location in Çekirge, a district unban district of Bursa, replaced earlier accommodations in a former school and the Yeşil Madrasa. The 2010-2013 restoration addressed the building's needs after nearly four decades of operation in this park setting.
