Gravina Museum of Fine Arts

The Gravina Museum of Fine Arts (Spanish: Museo de Bellas Artes Gravina, MUB museum in Alicante, Spain, dedicated to the painting and sculpture of the Alicante region from the sixteenth century to the early decades of the twentieth century. Established in 2001, it houses nearly 500 works drawn from the provincial council's collections and is recognized for its concentration of nineteenth-century regional masters who contributed to the fame of the so-called Valencian school.

The collection is devoted to Alicante painting and sculpture spanning from the sixteenth century to the early twentieth century. Its particular strength lies in nineteenth-century regional art, reflecting the major trends of that era: historicism, costumbrismo (genre scenes), portraiture, and landscape. The provincial council's support system generated a substantial nucleus of works by artists who trained in Madrid, Rome, and Paris, including examination pieces, foreign study submissions, and works sent back to fulfill scholarship obligations. The collection also incorporates works from the Pinacoteca Nacional, notably paintings awarded prizes at the Exposiciones Nacionales de Bellas Artes. The museum's curatorial program has increasingly emphasized contextualized presentation of individual artists, with temporary exhibitions designed to illuminate facets of their work, lives, and cultural milieu.
