Andrew Robertson (1777-1845) was a Scottish miniature painter born in Aberdeen. He trained in Scotland, where his teachers included Alexander Nasmyth and Sir Henry Raeburn, and in 1797 he attended the Royal Academy Schools in London, where he based his career. In 1805 he was appointed miniature painter to the Duke of Sussex, and he exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy.

Robertson developed a new approach to the portrait miniature, working on a larger, usually rectangular format and using paint to imitate the depth and finish of oil painting. This manner became widely influential in British miniature painting by the mid-nineteenth century. He died at Hampstead.
