Kanezane made delicate handscroll pages for a Buddhist sutra called the Lotus Sutra in the late 1100s. They used fine gold dust and silver leaf, sprinkled like confetti across ink lines. The result is a quiet flash of light on parchment, every character and cloud pattern outlined, then dusted.
