Artist
Jan Goraj
Jan Goraj is a Northern Renaissance artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at National Museum in Kraków.
Jan Goraj’s paintings glow because he kept a candlelit atelier long after sunset, staining his hands yellow with turpentine. In Miracle of Saint Simeon Stylites, he stacks the saint’s pillar higher than any tower in town, then crowds the base with tiny, craning faces, proof that faith, not scale, lifts a story. Find this scene on the left wing of the John the Merciful altarpiece in Gdańsk’s St. Mary’s Church, where the wood still smells like pine resin and candle wax.
