Ercole Banci
b. 1450
Ercole Banci is an Early Baroque Italian painter. 2 works are cataloged here, principally at Gemäldegalerie Berlin, most of them tempera paintings.
Ercole Banci was an Italian painter documented in Bologna between 1470 and 1531. Working in the late 15th and early 16th centuries, he was a follower of Lorenzo Costa and belonged to the Bolognese school then dominated by Costa and Francesco Francia. Records place him decorating rooms for the Duchess of Ferrara around 1505 and carrying out gilding at the castle of Ferrara in 1506, and in 1518 he took on a pupil from Faenza.
Few paintings can be securely attributed to him, and the details of his training and origins remain unknown.
