About this work

This print shows a quiet scene of four figures sitting under a tree. The man holds a baby, while a woman kneels beside them. Behind them, two standing figures—one with a long beard—look out toward a distant building. The whole image is made of dark lines and soft brown shading, giving it a warm, shadowy feel. The artist used a trick called *chiaroscuro*, where light and dark tones create depth. Notice how the shadows wrap around the figures, making them look three-dimensional even though it’s just a print. Next, check out how *woodcut* prints were made in the Renaissance.
