About this work

Diane Arbus made photos that look hard at people who live outside everyday rules. *A Box of Ten Photographs* came after her death in 1971, finished by others in 1972-74. The pictures show street faces, sideshow performers, and others she called “freaks” without flinching. She shot most of her best work on the side while running a fashion studio for Vogue. Depression followed her, and she took her own life at forty-eight. Check out more at the Victoria and Albert Museum.
