Landscapes and Street Corners: Moving is a 1900 by Auguste Lepère, held at Cleveland Museum of Art.
This drawing shows a busy street scene where a man is slumped on the ground, looking exhausted. Around him, people carry furniture—chairs, a bed frame, and a table—while others push a cart piled with belongings. The buildings in the background have signs and shop windows, and the whole scene feels crowded and chaotic. Notice how the artist uses bold lines and dark shading to show shadows and movement, giving the drawing a lively, almost sketchy feel. Check out chiaroscuro to see how artists use light and dark for drama.
Louis-Auguste Lepère (30 November 1849 – 20 November 1918) was a French painter and etcher. Lepère is also considered a leader in the creative revival of wood engraving in Europe.
