About this work

This painting shows three shadowy figures standing close together. The background is dark, almost black, while the people are outlined in rough, bright strokes—pinks, reds, and yellows. Their faces are blurred, and their clothes look stiff and simple, like old-fashioned costumes. The brushstrokes are thick and uneven, almost like scribbles. The colors pop against the dark background, making the figures stand out in a strange way. This style is called impasto.
