About this work

This painting shows two buildings with thick, uneven brushstrokes. The left side is warm—yellows and oranges—while the right side is bold red with dark shadows. Windows and doors peek out, but the paint is so rough it looks almost scratched. The top has a faint outline of a roof with a yellowish glow. The paint is applied in thick layers, making some spots look almost 3D. This style is called *impasto*, where paint is laid on so heavily it stands out. Try looking up *impasto* to see more paintings with this bold texture.
