Description of Egypt: Thebes. Medynet-abou, Vol V, pl. 46 is a 1822 by Baptiste Bigant, a Romanticism work, held at Cleveland Museum of Art.
This is a faded drawing of old Egyptian writing. The paper is torn in spots, and the ink looks scratchy. Small pictures of people and gods mix with long lines of symbols. Some areas are dark, others barely there. The symbols are hieroglyphs—Egypt’s old picture-writing. They’re packed tight, like a puzzle. The title at the top says it’s from a book about Egypt. Look up Baptiste Bigant (French) next to see how he drew these.
