Old breakwater, coast of Essex is a 1825 watercolor by Charles Bentley, a British Romanticism work, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This painting shows a stormy sea with a broken shipwrecked boat half-on shore. The waves crash hard around jagged wooden posts sticking out of the water. In the background, another small ship sails far away, and seagulls fly over the wreck. The ship’s mast is bent, and the wood looks worn, as if it’s been tossed around by the storm. The sky is pale and hazy, making the rough water look even darker. Next, check out the Victoria and Albert Museum to see more works like this.
