About this work

This is a close-up of a single plant with a thick, spiky stem. At the top, three long, curved leaves fan out like horns. The center of the plant looks like a tight cluster of smaller leaves or buds. The whole thing is in black and white, with deep shadows and sharp lines. This is a photo, not a painting—it’s called a *photogravure*, a fancy way of printing photos. The artist focused on the plant’s strange, almost animal-like shape. Check out Blossfeldt, Karl for more plant photos that look like sculptures.
