About this work

This is a photograph of a sculpture of a man's head. The sculpture is made of a light-colored material, possibly plaster or clay, and features a realistic representation of a man's face. The man has a neutral expression, with his eyes looking straight ahead. The sculpture is set against a dark background, which helps to highlight the details of the man's face. The overall effect is one of simplicity and elegance, with the focus squarely on the sculpture itself. The story of this work

Overview

A black-and-white photograph is mounted on a green card as part of a collection bequeathed by William Kineton Parkes in 1938. Kineton Parkes, a novelist, art historian, and librarian known for his work on sculpture, solicited responses from sculptors in the 1920s through questionnaires, now held in the Archive of Art and Design. This image is one of numerous photographs sent to him by sculptors completing the survey.
