Dedication to Don Lorenzo de' Medici is a 1622 ink by Jacques Callot, a Baroque work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This is a framed piece of paper with black ink lines and swirling text. The words are in Italian, written in fancy, looping letters. At the top, it says *"All'Ill. & Ecc. Sig. Principe Don Lorenzo de' Medici."* In the bottom right corner, there’s a signature: *"Humil cDevot.mo Servo Iacopo Callot."* The text looks like a formal dedication, packed with old-fashioned phrases. The lines are uneven, with some parts darker than others, as if the artist pressed harder in spots. This is an example of etching, a printing method where the artist scratches into metal plates.
Jacques Callot was a baroque printmaker and draftsman from the Duchy of Lorraine.
