The Virgin and Child, St. Joseph and the young St. John the Baptist is a 1639 by Simone Cantarini, a Baroque work, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This sketch shows a group of figures in soft red lines on light paper. On the left, a seated woman holds a baby, while a standing man and a small child stand nearby. Above them, two more children float in the air, looking down. The lines are loose and quick, like a rough draft. The drawing mixes religious figures—likely the Virgin Mary, baby Jesus, and saints—with playful putti (winged baby figures) floating above. The artist used simple strokes to suggest movement and emotion. Check out the Victoria and Albert Museum to see more sketches like this.
A red chalk drawing from 1639 by Cantarini portrays the Virgin and Child accompanied by St. Joseph and the young St. John the Baptist.
