George Chinnery shows a banana or plantain leaf in sharp detail. The drawing has a rough sketch of huts behind it. Most of the huts are erased, but faint lines remain. This isn’t just a plant study. Chinnery worked in India and China, so banana leaves show up often in his work. The erased huts hint at a scene he didn’t finish. Look for his pencil lines the next time you visit the Victoria and Albert Museum.
