The story of this work

Overview

The drawing features palm trees and dense foliage alongside Indian figures near a domed tomb, with a goat positioned beneath a plantain tree. Part of an album containing 175 sketches made in China and India, it was bequeathed in 1928 by James Orange as part of a collection of 93 drawings by George Chinnery. Chinnery, an artist born in London in 1774, worked primarily in British India and later in Macau, where he died in 1852.
